Nigerians And Tanzanians Urged To Embrace Bitcoin

The adoption of the central American state of El Salvador of Bitcoin as legal tender may only be a small step, the forecasting by several crypto enthusiasts that other nations would follow is already coming true.
Over the weekend, in a reaction to Nigerian authorities trying to rein in the popularity of crypto in the country, NFL star Russell Okung wrote an opinion piece in Bitcoin Magazine.
He demanded that the Nigerian government would achieve “economic independence and financial sovereignty” by establishing a Bitcoin Standard.

Okung is an influential figure in Africa as he’s of Nigerian descent and has proven himself successful in the US.
He stated:
It is no secret that the current global economic environment is worrisome and unsustainable. Sadly, the fate of the Nigerian economy is in the hands of global central bankers who do not represent the best interests of the Nigerian people. Despite the challenges we face, the resilience of Nigerians continues to inspire.

His opinion piece was then retweeted by none other then Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who stated that:
The people of Nigeria will lead Bitcoin.
Nigeria is the largest state by population in Africa, with more than 200 million citizens. The call for Nigerians to embrace crypto comes only a few months after the Nigerian central bank has (unsuccessfully) tried to ban the use of cryptocurrencies, which are wildly popular with youngsters there.
Another nation in Africa, that of Tanzania (population 58 million), is also voicing support for Bitcoin.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan called on the Tanzanian Central Bank to start:

I know that throughout the nation, including Tanzania, they have not accepted or started using these routes. However, my call to the Central Bank is that you should start working on that development.
It comes as Bitcoin is seeing renewed momentum as it broke through the $40k barrier again.
