US media criticizes Trump’s crypto profits after TV show

American media outlets have been in overdrive since news broke a few weeks ago that the Trump family had reportedly generated close to $1.5 billion through a range of cryptocurrency ventures tied to the U.S. president. Now, attention has turned to yet another initiative: offering Wall Street a split-second preview of his social media posts before they are released publicly.

Last Week Tonight

On Sunday, the highly popular talk show Last Week Tonight, a multiple Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Variety Series, aired an episode in which host John Oliver detailed and revisited the substantial profits Donald Trump and his family have reportedly generated through the Trump memecoin and World Liberty Financial.

That was followed up on Monday and Tuesday with a very long article in New York Magazine focusing on the former friendship between Justin Sun (founder of Tron), as well as an article in The Guardian that repeated everything John Oliver had said about Trump’s crypto companies. Both sites have a reach of millions.

Sun’s story is indeed quite interesting. He was practically the largest buyer of Trump’s memecoin and an investor in World Liberty Financial. A few weeks later, an investigation by the SEC against Sun’s own crypto companies was halted. However, a few months later, Sun could no longer log into his World Liberty Financial account and his investment turned out to be frozen. The man who was once one of Trump’s biggest fans has now filed a lawsuit against the Trump family.
