Despite crypto promises, Bitcoin drops during Trump’s second term

Ever since Donald Trump became President of the United States again, back in January of 2025, Bitcoin has lost nearly 40% of its value.

This of course stands in stark contrast to his ambitious promises regarding cryptocurrency. After all, Trump had positioned crypto as a cornerstone of his economic agenda, declaring his intention to make the US both “the crypto capital of the world” and “the Bitcoin superpower of the world.” Things turned out quite differently, however, as Bitcoin’s value fell during his second term in office.

The trend is particularly noteworthy given that Bitcoin surpassed the psychologically significant $100,000 threshold for the first time in November 2024, shortly after Donald Trump’s election victory secured him a second presidential term. This milestone was widely interpreted as a sign of strengthening investor confidence and growing institutional acceptance of digital assets, reinforcing the bullish momentum that had driven Bitcoin to record highs.

However, this upward trajectory began to lose momentum during Trump’s second term, with signs of weakening market strength becoming evident from October 2025 onward. Since then, Bitcoin has struggled to sustain its previous pace of growth, experiencing increased volatility and periods of corrective pressure. More importantly, technical analysis reveals the emergence of a series of progressively lower highs over recent months.

This pattern suggests that buying pressure has been gradually diminishing, while sellers have become increasingly active at lower price levels. If sustained, such a development could indicate a broader shift in market sentiment and may signal the transition from a strong bullish phase to a more prolonged period of consolidation or potential downside risk.

During this period, Trump and his family did however profit handsomely from the various crypto companies they founded. Hundreds of millions of dollars were generated, both through the launch of the Trump memecoin and the company World Liberty Financial, since he took office. From a technical standpoint, this places Bitcoin in a bear market that is hopefully nearing its end. Analysts predict that Bitcoin will finally bottom out in late September or early October 2026, followed by a period of consolidation before a new uptrend can begin. We certainly hope they are right.
