Multiple Russian crypto millionaires die in same weekend

Just as it’s fashionable in Russia to fall out of a window if you disagree with the Kremlin (this happened quite often to businessmen and politicians ever since the start of the war in Ukraine), it’s also fashionable to die if you’re a crypto millionaire, at least judging by the news of this past weekend.

Lamborghini

Both Alexei Dolgich and Roman Novak, both of whom had made a fortune via crypto in Russia, were found dead this weekend.

According to Russian newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets and the state news agency Tass, Dolgich’s fatal accident occurred on a highway. His Lamborghini overturned and burned out completely. Footage showed the car engulfed in flames. No mention was made of the other two occupants.

It’s unclear how the accident happened.

Things were different for convicted Russian cryptocurrency fraudster Roman Novak and his wife Anna. They had been missing for a month already, and their bodies were finally found this weekend. Apparently, they were murdered after their kidnappers were unable to access their money or obtain a ransom for their release (at least, according to the Russian news website Fontanka).

Defrauded investors included Chinese and Ukrainian businessmen, members of the Ukrainian security forces and a State Duma deputy.

A former Russian police officer has been arrested on suspicion of their murder. Apparently, the bodies were decapitated.
