Did Elon Musk Reveal Satoshi Nakamoto’s Identity?
Last Updated on 31 December 2021 by CryptoTips.eu
I got a lot of things off my to do list this week before the year ends, and yesterday evening I finally found a block of time to listen to Lex Fridman’s interview with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The third appearance of the latter on the highly interesting podcast.
The talk went on for two and a half hours and covered a wide range of topics. Musk even promoted the conversation on his social media accounts, stating that: ‘Lex asks great questions.’
360 turn
As Musk did a 360 turn on both Bitcoin and Dogecoin this year (he boosted Bitcoin in January and then dumped the price by citing sustainable energy concerns later, he boosted Dogecoin and then dumped the price by telling SNL audiences it could be a hustle), it was clear that the topic of crypto was sure to come up.

However, no one could ever have guessed that Musk would reveal who he thought Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous inventor of Bitcoin, really was.
There was such a lot of ground covered in this talk that it would take us 5,000 words to summarize only everything crypto related. Musk, pausing for pensive answers, discussed at length what he felt about Dogecoin, Bitcoin, smart contracts, Ethereum and all else. We highlight two of the most interesting quotes.
On Cryptocurrency and why the old money system needs to change:
I think the cryptocurrency thing is an interesting approach to reducing the error in the database that is called money; I think I have a pretty deep understanding of the of what money actually is on a practical day-to-day basis because of PayPal. You know we really got in deep there and right now the money system actually is …. is really a bunch of heterogeneous mainframes running old Cobol.
Responsible for the ideas
On Satoshi Nakamoto:
Well I mean you can you can look at the evolution of ideas before the launch of Bitcoin and see who wrote you know about those ideas and then I like, I don’t know exactly, I don’t know who created Bitcoin for practical purposes but the evolution of ideas is, is pretty clear for that and like it seems as though like Nick Szabo is probably more than anyone else responsible for the evolution of those ideas so he claims not to be Nakamoto but I’m not sure that that’s neither here nor there. He seems to be the one more responsible for the ideas behind Bitcoin than anyone else.
There’s no telling what kind of influence Elon Musk will have on the world of crypto in 2022 and whether it will be as significant as he was in 2021, but he sure left us with quite a story as we end the year.
