Bitcoin is trading above $45k this morning, while most of the crypto market is seeing very healthy gains. At the time of writing, Cardano (which we’ve last week said could be the next major investment platform for Wall Street), is witnessing a 22% surge in value over its upcoming Alonzo update, which will allow Charles Hoskinson’s coin smart contract deployment.

Over in Paris, soccer superstar Messi’s arrival meant that PSG’s fan token surged to an all-time-high.

Messi and PSG

Non-fungible tokens have been booming for several months, especially in the field of collectible cards in digital version. Because the NFT cards of soccer players and teams was already a growing crypto business, the departure of soccer superstar Lionel Messi from FC Barcelona has raised the odds of one particular token.

In the small world of football, the press conference officially announcing the departure of Argentinian player Lionel Messi from FC Barcelona caused quite a stir after more than 20 years in the Catalan club. The departure means the six-time Ballon d’Or is now ready to sign at another (wealthy) football club, and the mere fact that he said Paris Saint-Germain would be “a possibility” resulted in an immediate reaction in the cryptosphere.

Over the weekend already the PSG Fan Token, traded on CoinMarketCap as PSG saw its price explode after the rumor was confirmed by Messi himself.

The PSG Fan Token had been trading around $20 all year, but surged to $50 in the hours after the possibility of a Messi move to PSG was confirmed. As Messi landed in Paris, and signed a two year contract yesterday, it is trading 10% higher still.

Paris Saint-Germain fans are undoubtedly happy with the arrival of Lionel Messi in their favorite club and given the strong increase in the value of their PSG tokens, it is quite possible that they wish to continue HODLing.
