Black Mirror launches own cryptocoin based on ‘social score’

Black Mirror, the hyper-popular science fiction series that is available on Netflix for already few years now, is set to launch its own cryptocurrency, called Smile Pass. Followers of the popular series claim that it will be based on a “social score” and see eerie similarities to the themes of Nosedive, one of the most popular episodes.
Nosedive
Combining crypto with ‘social score’. The idea comes from Charlie Brooker, the illustrious creator of Black Mirror.
This time he combines the value of the new cryptocurrency, which will be called Smile Pass and can be earned in an online game, with a social score for holders of the coin.

According to the coin’s whitepaper, coin holders who behave ‘well’, such as those buying more tokens or rating other players positively during the game, will be rewarded. Negative behavior, such as dumping tokens or downvoting others by giving them negative comments, will be punished.
Wedding
And that is precisely the storyline of Nosedive, one of the most popular and talked-about episodes of the series. In it, Bryce Dallas Howard plays a character who will do anything to increase her own social score in order to move to a better neighborhood. She finally gets the chance to do so when she is invited to a lavish wedding, that of her childhood friend Alive Eve.
However, that plan falls apart when Bryce misses her flight and misbehaves towards the person at the check-in desk. Her social score goes down rapidly and, if she had been in the Black Mirror crypto game, so does her crypto value.
Charlie Brooker may simply be showing us a glimpse of the future.
