Worldcoin’s parent company finally allowed to operate in the US, media claims ‘Bot Apocalypse’ is imminent

Worldcoin, the digital currency of Tools for Humanity, the company founded by Sam Altman (of ChatGPT), was finally able to achieve success this week after years of setbacks. During the Biden administration, Tools for Humanity was banned from operating in the US, but under the Trump administration that ban got reversed. This week the go-ahead was finally given to scan everyone’s eyeball in exchange for crypto there too. It sure sounds strange, but it is very true.

Iris

We’ve been talking about it for a few years now and this week the global media also covered it (with articles in the New York Times and Verge). American journalists are not really keen and have warned of a possible ‘Bot Apocalypse’. Tools for Humanity, the company of Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT) wants to scan the eyes of everyone in the world and then give users a ‘basic universal income’ via a digital currency (called Worldcoin). Through a scan of your iris, made by an ‘Orb’, Worldcoin hopes to be able to map a kind of digital passport of all of humanity. If everyone in the world can then be recognised by computers, it will be easier to pay everyone a ‘universal basic income’ and let computers (as well as robots) do all the work. That’s at least the idea.

Low level

That seems simple, but it is met with resistance in many countries because it is of course the same as giving up your privacy and letting everybody be recognizable by such orbs. Older generations in particular have a very hard time with that.

The currency of Tools for Humanity, called Worldcoin, is now at a very low level of around 80 euro cents due to all the troubles in various countries around the world where the company was banned from operating.

Note that if Altman is successful and can convince millions of Americans to scan their irises in the next few weeks, it is not impossible that Worldcoin will start a new bull run.
