Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies remained mostly without direction in the first weekend of the year as investors awaited to see what stock market openings would bring to the market.

At the time of writing, the world’s biggest digital currency trades for $47k while Ethereum changes hands for around $3,700.

Over the weekend, Motley Fool, one of Wall Street’s biggest media outlets, picked its favorite coins for 2022 and Vitalik Buterin revisited old predictions.

Motley Fool picks crypto coins for 2022

The Motley Fool may not sound like a serious name, but it has been one of Wall Street’s media mainstays for almost two decades. Over the weekend, they discussed their three favorite crypto coins for the year that has just started. Unsurprisingly Ethereum finished first.

They count on billionaire Mark Cuban (the star of Shark Tank) for their pick. Cuban believes that Ethereum could be a monster winner in 2022 as game-changing new apps are built on the platform.

Secondly, the Motley Fool expects Solana to continue its recent rise of 12,000% and do also very well in 2022. They said:

Solana is already what Ethereum supporters hope it becomes with the planned upgrade. The key difference is that Solana uses a proof-of-history protocol that increases its scalability. Solana seems likely to remain a top choice for developers who don’t want to wait for Ethereum to catch up.

Another author of the site picked a similar coin we talked about a while ago: Basic Attention Token, the crypto coin of the Brave browser. They said:

BAT is now down roughly 30% from the high that it hit late in November. Brave Software’s stellar management team and potentially disruptive approach to the web browser and digital advertising markets point to potentially explosive rebound potential.

Vitalik Buterin revisits predictions

One thing that was absent in 2021 was to hear Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin post a lot of tweets commenting on the crypto market or on the value of his own coin. He certainly made up for that this weekend when he posted several dozens of tweets, discussing past predictions and forecasting what he expects the world of cryptocoins to become.

Mostly technical discussions, as we’ve become used to from Vitalik, but an interesting look in the man’s mind nevertheless.
