Kazachstan wants its own national Bitcoin reserve

On the list of countries that mine a large number of Bitcoins, the United States remains clearly at the top. Texas is the state where most companies have established themselves. Third on the list is Kazakhstan, where many Chinese mining companies relocated after Beijing implemented a ban on crypto mining in 2021. That year, Kazakhstan’s mining boom was so rapid that at one point, 21% of all Bitcoins were mined there. Since then, that number has dropped to around 13%, but it’s still quite high for a country with only 20 million inhabitants.

Thanks to this newfound wealth for the country, there is now also political will to participate in this growing digital economy. Therefore, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has proposed the creation of a national Bitcoin reserve. This is part of his “CryptoCity” project.
According to President Tokayev, the city is expected to be the first fully digitized in the region. The goal is to represent “the future of Kazakhstan” by “combining technological progress with the most favorable living conditions.”
The President of Kazakhstan also wants his government to cooperate in the creation of a national Bitcoin reserve. This will maximize the return of bank money to the economy.
