The introduction of Bitcoin ETFs led Boomer investors (the generation now approaching retirement age) in the United States to discover digital currencies last year. They invest in Bitcoin via known companies like BlackRock and Vanguard, and in the rest of the crypto market via other stocks.
GenZ, on the other hand, is opting to trade altcoins.
Volatile
It’s striking that Bitcoin-related stocks are outperforming Bitcoin itself this year, which is normally very volatile. Bitcoin’s 20% gain in 2025 pales in comparison to some well-known crypto stocks hyped by Boomers.
Coinbase, the largest crypto trading platform in the United States, is performing very well and is close to its 2021 ATH. Thanks to the fact that Coinbase provides trading for 8 of the 11 largest Bitcoin ETF funds, its name recognition has also grown among older generations.
Bitmine, a new American company that has been publicly traded for a few months and actively buys Ether, has also had an incredible start. It is led by Tom Lee, the man we know from Fundstrat. Several well-known American investors are very enthusiastic about Tom Lee’s plan and Bitmine and are investing heavily. Peter Thiel (known as the co-founder of Facebook) and Cathie Wood (CEO of Ark Invest) have made large purchases.
