Earlier this week, a new crypto kidnapping was prevented in the French city of Nantes; The growing trend has by now become a state affair, with foreign press also following the trend closely.

Crypto CEOs are forced to hire extra security personnel while the Ministry of the Interior continues to make more and more arrests. Several minors were also apprehended.

Both the AFP news agency and the New York Times have published stories about the growing trend.

In two cases, the kidnappers cut off a victim’s finger to scare families and colleagues into paying them millions of euros in cryptocurrencies, authorities said and in one of those cases, they threatened to drill the victim’s knee.

Paris police said 24 people were taken into custody Monday and Tuesday in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a crypto entrepreneur’s daughter in Paris, which was captured in a disturbing video earlier this month.

Ledger co-founder Eric Larcheveque said: “for several months now, there has been a rise in sordid kidnappings and attempted kidnappings. In broad daylight. In the heart of Paris,”

“Today, to succeed in France, whether in crypto-assets or elsewhere, is to put a target on your back,” Larcheveque said on social media.
