According to the anonymous quant PlanB, one of the Netherlands’ most well-known Bitcoin influencers, the Shadowban that was covering his Tweets was lifted this week. A Shadowban is a code that ensured that your Tweets are not seen by 90% of your followers. PlanB claims the lifting happened after Elon Musk took over Twitter.

Other crypto influencers with a large number of followers, the group referred to as “crypto Twitter” claims that most “crypto bots” have also disappeared this week. In any case, if crypto influencers are seen more on social media from now on, this can only be good for digital coins.

Shadowban

Plan B, the anonymous Dutch quant who invented the stock-to-flow model, which predicts the long-term price of Bitcoin, says he had to operate under a so-called Shadowban in recent years. A Shadowban on Twitter means that your Tweets yield less ‘impressions’ than normal, because Twitter thinks you are not following the rules they imposed. Many mostly right-wing influencers claim that they had to operate under a Shadowban in recent years.

Now that Elon Musk has taken over Twitter and immediately fired the top of the company, many crypto Twitter influencers are claiming that their tweets will be seen by many more of their followers from now on. The firing of Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s chief legal officer, is seen as particularly significant. She had a say in the ousting of Donald Trump from the platform, blocking the story about Hunter Biden’s laptop and blocking accounts that had something negative to say about transgenders (there’s a famous episode of the Joe Rogan podcast where Vijaya Gadde was a guest and the Twitter policy was discussed).

New York Post

When news broke early this year that Musk was trying to take over Twitter, Vijaya gave a speech to staff trying to calm them down. Twitter, as even former CEO Jack Dorsey admitted in 2018, has been historically more left-leaning (and therefore Democratic) politically inclined and the fear is that there will be a shift to the right now that Musk has taken over.

The Tesla CEO replied that censoring a well-known news outlet (the New York Post originally ran the story) because you don’t agree with the news they bring is a real problem. The New York Post is seen in the United States as a sensationalist rightwing newspaper, comparable to the Daily Mail in the United Kingdom, Bild in Germany and De Telegraaf in the Netherlands.

This weekend already Musk started a major layoff operation at Twitter if we are to believe the New York Times reporting. Musk denied that certain details of the story were accurate.

In any case, if Bitcoin influencers are seen more and if Dogecoin gets a boost from the acquisition (as was the case this week), we think that the price and popularity of crypto is not at risk.
