Did Bitcoin lose it’s ‘rebel’ status in 2025?

2025 was actually a fairly good year for both stocks and precious metals (silver and gold), which is why it’s so surprising that Bitcoin will likely close negatively (for the first time since 2022). The main question we need to ask ourselves is why.

BlackRock

Despite the new all-time high, it was a particularly difficult year for Bitcoin fans. Gold set record after record and ended the year on a largely positive note. Bitcoin did manage to set a new record, but still ended the year negative. Almost everyone now agrees that we’re at the end of another bull run. The fifth, in fact. If logic holds true, then it’s now up to developers to discover something new and introduce a new investor class to crypto so we can start all over again.

If there’s one major difference between the 2020-2021 bull run and that of 2024-2025, it’s Wall Street’s acceptance of Bitcoin. During that famous 2020-2021 bull run, which coincided with the Covid-19 lockdowns, Bitcoin was seen as “cool” and “revolutionary.”

In 2024, thanks in part to BlackRock and Vanguard’s ETFs, we let the boomers into Bitcoin as investors. As a result, the largest digital currency has simply become more boring now that it has entered the financial mainstream. As both JP Morgan and BlackRock are placing a digital currency like Bitcoin in the same investment category as gold and silver, much of its revolutionary spirit was lost. Google searches for “bitcoin” are very stable these days with no peaks. Even Elon Musk, who once sparked a memecoin craze, had plenty of other things to tweet about in 2025.

The good news is that (probably) a panic in 2026 (when Bitcoin falls through its support line) will see a lot of new buyers enter the crypto market.
