Crypto scammers are looking for Trump voters

Last month, shortly after the end of his ‘hush money’ trial in New York, presidential candidate Donald Trump’s team announced that he would allow crypto donations. This led to a bull run for memecoins like Pepe and Trump, digital currencies that are quite popular with Trump supporters. By now, crypto scammers have understood that the launch of an unverified Trump coin can attract a lot of money. The number of ‘rug pulls’ has increased substantially.

Just as Donald Trump coined the term “Fake News,” his conviction last month has spawned a slew of “fake coins.”

Scammers are registering domain names with common spelling mistakes, hoping to catch Trump supporters who want to access donaldjtrump [.] com.

One domain registered at donalbjtrump [.] com (a single letter difference) was a near-perfect replica of the actual Trump campaign website. And while the Trump campaign accepts donations through Coinbase, the largest crypto platform in the United States, some of the scammer websites appear to be using fake crypto platforms with a name similar to Coinbase. Some Trump supporters who simply want to donate money are sending their crypto to criminals.

On Monday there was an announcement that the Trump campaign team would be launching an official DJT (Donald J Trump) coin next week.

As a result, the price of another coin called TRUMP (Maga) fell by 31% in one day, as the campaign team had never recognized that coin.

A few hours later, however, the message arrived that more than 70% of ‘DJT’ belonged to a single wallet, and was therefore probably also a ‘fake coin’.

So keep an eye out for volatility with ‘Trump’ coins in the coming months and always check whether they are official.
