I must admit I’ve tried watching soccer matches as of late, but for me it just doesn’t have the same appeal as it used to.

Without the fans inside the stadium, the noise of passing a ball and trainers shouting to players makes it look like a training ground from when I was young. Ah, back in the day…

Apparently, I’m an exception though as one thing that has proved to be absolutely resilient in Europe and the US during the pandemic are sports viewing numbers. In fact, more people now watch soccer on TV than before.

I can only imagine that women now watch Netflix’s number one show Bridgerton (don’t even get me started, just watch the SNL female cast’s reaction to the Duke) in the bedroom whilst their husbands watch Manchester City in the salon.

Fan tokens

One crypto is profiting from this new piece of information though. More than any other, sports tokens, including Chiliz and the crypto coins tied to specific soccer teams, have seen quite the upturn as of late.

Chiliz itself has been on a parabolic climb in fact, given that it helps to form the infrastructure for many fan tokens of some well-known soccer clubs like Barcelona FC and Paris Saint-Germain.

Thanks to the Socios.com platform, fans can buy tokenized voting rights for the teams they support. Italian club Juventus, which fields stars like Ronaldo and was the first to launch a team token through the Socios.com website.

Hundreds of other teams have since joined, resulting in an ever-larger growing array of sports, including football, basketball, and esports teams.

Given that the Champions League is now entering the final stages (Chelsea and Bayern were the last to join the quarter finals) before Euro 2021 (hopefully) kicks off, is it possible that more Chiliz madness is on the way in the next few weeks?
