Awakened X-account of Sam Bankman-Fried is good news for FTT

Just as we’re seeing more and more social media posts about the upcoming Netflix series on FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried’s dormant X-account is waking up. A simple “good morning” tweet sent the price of FTT, the cryptocurrency of the bankrupt FTX crypto platform, soaring by 30% yesterday.

Altruists

Coming soon to Netflix is ‘The Altruists’, a series about the defunct crypto platform FTX and the romance between CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and his girlfriend, Caroline Ellison, the CEO of Alameda Research. There’s a lot of buzz on social media sites like X (formerly Twitter), 9Gag, and Reddit about how Julia Garner, who plays Ellison in the series, looks absolutely nothing like her, but with a little makeup you can go a long way of course.

The person who manages Bankman-Fried’s social media accounts (who is serving a 25-year prison sentence) likely decided to ride the wave of hype over the past few weeks. He sent a simple “gm,” which stands for “good morning,” of course, from SBF’s X account.

That immediately sent FTT’s price up 25%, leading many on social media to believe SBF was a free man. Grok, X’s AI, quickly explained that SBF was still in jail, but that this tweet had been sent by a friend of his who manages his social media accounts.

FTT’s price subsequently dropped back to its original level.
