Argentinean justice wants to see President Milei’s bank accounts over Libra memecoin scandal

Last Updated on 20 May 2025 by CryptoTips.eu

Earlier this year, Argentine President Javier Milei promoted the Libra memecoin on his X account. However, a few hours later, he claimed to have nothing to do with the coin and the value of Libra plummeted. Hundreds of thousands of Argentines lost their initial investment.

On February 17, two days after the launch of Libra, the first complaints were filed with the local courts. President Milei is being prosecuted for fraud as well as setting up a pump and dump scheme for the Libra memecoin.

This situation has significantly affected the popularity of the Argentinean president. A poll published at the end of March showed that more than 57% of Argentines no longer trust President Milei, partly due to the Libra scandal.

Milei’s accounts

Now, the Argentine justice wants access to Milei’s financial data as well as his emails. The criminal court handling the case published a new document on May 14.

Judge María Servini asked the head of the Central Bank’s legal department to share all of Javier Milei’s financial data since 2023. She also requests the data of several of his relatives, including Karina Milei, Mauricio Gaspar Novelli, Manuel Terrones Godoy and Sergio Daniel Morales.

The judge also wants to examine all of Milei’s accounts and those of his relatives to shed light on the launch of Libra and other possible embezzlements.

This is one memecoin launch that will not be forgotten anytime soon.
