Apple Users May Pay for Apps with Crypto Following New Policy

Apple introduced a new policy that allows Apple Store users to pay for apps directly to developers. This gives users the choice to either pay through Apple or directly to developers. The new policy is coming into force following a lawsuit settlement between Apple developers and Apple.
Users have until now paid for apps via Apple which costs developers between 15% to 30% of gross purchases. This results in that developers have to hand over a large part of their turnover to Apple.
With the settlement, developers are now allowed to use customer information available to them such as email addresses to contact them directly and woo them to buy apps outside Apple, without the fees.
Developers will also be free from paying any commissions to Apple on purchases made outside the App Store, a recent press release from Apple said. The high commission charges was the main reason for the class action lawsuit against Apple, but not only developers but even Apple users can avoid fees going forward.
Apple users may pay with crypto
One of the key points in this new policy is that users can explore more payment options. The lawyers representing the developers say that they can inform the users of alternative payments.
They said:
By informing customers of alternative payment options, developers can avoid paying Apple’s commissions and, moreover, exert competitive pressure on Apple to discipline its pricing
This opens the door to several possibilities including the use of crypto for such payments. As cryptocurrency popularity is on the increase with many businesses starting to accept them for payment, it will not be surprising if Apple developers allow this possibility for its customers as well.
When contacted directly by developers, Apple users can ask to pay with crypto. This will be much cheaper as transactions only cost as low as a few cents depending on the cryptocurrency used.
